We recruit throughout the year whenever a vacancy occurs.
We provide two hours of group supervision (four counsellors per group) each fortnight. Students pay £25 per month for their supervision - by monthly Direct Debit. We are not able to pay travel expenses for counselling students.
It is expected that all counsellors will become members of a professional body such as BACP, UKCP or NCS and will attend at least two of our workshops each year as part of their ongoing professional development.
We hope that all counsellors, including trainees, will to commit to the service for at least two years, hopefully for much longer!
It is a requirement that if you join ACC as a trainee counsellor you are also having your own weekly therapy.
How many clients would I be expected to see each week?
Our student counsellors usually see three clients each week.
How much supervision will I get?
We offer group supervision (4 supervisees per group). The groups meet for 2 hours each fortnight. Supervision is currently mostly online via Teams or Zoom with at least one face-to-face supervision each semester.
What modality of supervision do you offer?
Many of our groups are mixed in terms of modalities. We have supervisors with humanistic, psychodynamic and integrative backgrounds. Our philosophy is that we can all learn from each other.
